In a recent Post I talked about sustainability and the importance of local products and design. The East London Design Show was a good opportunity to invest in the local community and buy Christmas Gifts, which are a little bit more special. From affordable art prints, shoes and dishes nothing was left out in the selection.
But, although I liked many of the things I would like to show you these two designers, who instantly caught my eye.
Ware jewellery by emma ware looks like leather at first sight but is made from old bicycle tyre’s rubber. It not only has a very soft and organic feel it is also 100% environmentally responsible. Despite being in business for a rather short time, ware has already been featured on Time Out London and is available at several locations in London as well as in Prague, France and Singapore. The design reminds me a lot of wings and somehow of the Girl with the dragoon tattoo.
I also instantly fell in love with these soft leather one-of-a-kind clutches by Harriet Sanders. The bows are recycled Vintage bows and customers get a discount on a bag of they donate a bow. The lining is leather and of a different colour than the outer shell.
